PINKISHE Foundation’s Sikkim branch joined hands with NSS, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology to organize a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness program. In rural India, menstruation is embedded in myths. Furthermore, women lack awareness or are too poor to buy sanitary napkins.
Menstruation remains one of the biggest taboo subjects, but Pinkishe is breaking the notions as always, by conducting a free pad distribution drive in IBM slum area, Rangpo, Pakyong District, Sikkim on 30 August 2022.
Mrs Jhuma Sunuwar, Assistant professor, SMIT & Teacher coordinator, NSS, and members of Pinkishe organized the event along with Dr. S Visalakshi and 10 NSS SMIT Volunteers where local females were taught about the usage of pads and menstrual cups during periods followed by menstrual hygiene awareness. As a society, the stigma around periods or menstruation must be overcome. The program ended with a vote of thanks and pad distribution to ladies who participated in the event.
