Menstruation is a normal and regular event in healthy adolescent girl’s life. A 2016 study titled – ‘Menstrual hygiene management among adolescent girls in India’ involving nearly 100,000 girls in India found that almost 50,000 did not know about menstruation until the first time they got their period.
The Pinkishe Foundation aims to research and provide information about menstruation, promote positive hygiene habits and break down taboos. In this respect, a Menstrual Hygiene Literacy workshop was conducted on the 9th of September at Kashipur for young and adolescent girls. The girls ranged in age from twelve to nineteen. They received information on how to use and apply sanitary napkins, and develop healthy eating habits. They were also taught about how to maintain menstrual cleanliness as menstruation is not a problem but poor menstrual hygiene is. Also, the students were provided reusable pads.
