Free Sanitary Pad Donation & Menstrual Literacy Workshop | Hastinapur | 05 May 2022

SAKHI PROJECT 8 Block Hastinapur, Meerut

On 5th May, BRGs of Hastinapur block, Smt Shalini Bhatnagar trained 63 teachers of different schools in Hastinapur block on menstrual health and hygiene. Teachers discussed how absenteeism from school during periods affects the studies of young girls. In India, there is discrimination against menstruating people; periods are seen as taboo and impure. Girls often feel too ashamed and humiliated to attend school during their periods, this discomfort can also lead to an inherent desire to stay home from school, leading to high levels of absenteeism. Ms Shalini Gupta, General Secretary Pinkishe Foundation encouraged teachers to make girls understand that periods are not a disease rather it is a sign of a girl being healthy. These trained teachers further imparted training to 1134 girls studying in their schools.

Under the Sakhi program, Pinkishe Foundation is making teachers certified Menstrual hygiene educators by imparting them Menstrual hygiene training. These trained teachers further educate girls studying in their respective schools on menstrual health and hygiene. Free sanitary pads were distributed to all the girls who participated in this program. Pinkishe Foundation is continuously working to break all these myths and taboos in society.
